Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Daytona 500 Pace Car 2006

(from GM Press Release) A specially outfitted 2006 Corvette Z06 will serve as the official pace car of the 48 th running of the Daytona 500, on Feb. 19. “Tonight Show” host and auto enthusiast Jay Leno will drive the pace car.

The Daytona 500 is NASCAR’s premier race and traditionally kicks off the Nextel Cup racing season. Selection of the Z06 model marks the second consecutive year that a Corvette has been selected as the Daytona 500 pace car.

“It is a wonderful honor to have Corvette serve once again as the Daytona 500 pace car,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. “Chevrolet has a long, successful history at Daytona and there’s no better vehicle to showcase our performance legacy than the Corvette Z06 – a car that was born on the race track.”










Chevrolet Corvette C6.R at Le Mans 24 Hours 2006

(from GM Press Release) Corvette and Aston Martin went head-to-head in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, trading blows through a gruelling day and night of racing. When the battle finally ended at 5 pm on Sunday, Corvette Racing had won the GT1 class in the world's premier endurance car race for the fifth time in six years.

The winning Corvette, with 580 horsepower, completed 355 laps, made 25 faultless pit stops, and won by a five-lap margin of victory.

Corvette Racing extended its perfect finishing record in the 24 Hours of Le Mans to six consecutive years and Corvette became the manufacturer with the most wins in recent GT history at Le Mans.

“This is a very special time in Corvette history - five Le Mans wins in six years is an incredible achievement against strong competition," commented David Venticich, regional marketing director for General Motors in the Middle East. “As well as the exceptional skill and talent of the driving team, this win is thanks to the combined work of a very dedicated crew of mechanics, top-class engineers and visionary decision makers. Chevrolet Corvette C6 Convertible 2005

Production of the 2005 Corvette Convertible begins in fall 2004, slightly after the Coupe begins production in late summer. The 2005 Corvette will be available for sale in the U.S. in late summer, with sales in Europe scheduled to begin in October.

Chevrolet Corvette C5-R American LeMans 2004

(from GM Press Release) The Chevrolet Corvette C5-R closed out an historic era on Saturday night with a GTS victory at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, a circuit in which the championship-winning team had never won. Ron Fellows and Johnny O’Connell took the class victory in their #3 Compuware Corvette C5-R, seconds ahead of teammates Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta in the #4 Corvette. The successful endurance sports car racing program closed out the Corvette C5 era with a notable 35th victory in 55 races. Corvette won every single American Le Mans Series event in 2004 as well as the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

“It’s a very special year when you can go undefeated,” said Doug Duchardt, GM Racing director. “It’s great for the team to finally win at Laguna Seca and this was an amazing effort from the beginning until the end. We’re going to work very hard in the off season to continue with the Corvette C6-R in 2005.”
